The project involved new reinforced concrete structures designed to support long term wastewater conveyance and operational reliability. The structure is exposed to conditions that promote microbial induced corrosion (MIC) and chemical attack typically present in wastewater environments. The project was delivered under a constrained construction schedule and limited budget resources, requiring a durable solution that could be integrated efficiently into the concrete without adding installation complexity or extended labor requirements.

Xypex Bio-San crystalline waterproofing admixture was specified and incorporated into the concrete at the time of batching. Crystalline technology reacts with moisture and cement hydration by-products to form insoluble crystals that reduce permeability and provide permanent waterproofing. The Xypex Bio-San formulation adds antimicrobial protection to help mitigate microbial induced corrosion (MIC). The selected solution reduced on site labour, supported construction schedule requirements, and enhanced long term durability with reduced maintenance needs for municipal wastewater infrastructure.
