Milton Hershey School 14E
The Milton Hershey School undertook waterproofing work at the 14E facility to protect basement foundation walls from water intrusion. The scope included negative side waterproofing of both cast-in-place concrete and concrete masonry block foundation walls, where access to the exterior was not feasible.
A surface-applied Xypex crystalline waterproofing system was selected to address these conditions while providing long-term durability from the interior side of the structure. The Witmer Group completed the work using a combination of brush and spray application methods. Approximately 50 pails of Xypex Concentrate and 50 pails of Xypex Modified were applied to foundation wall surfaces. Crack repairs and localized surface restoration were completed using Xypex Megamix I and Xypex Patch’n Plug.
With Xypex published method statements for outlining crack repair procedures, surface-applied waterproofing for various concrete substrates, and waterproofing details around pipe penetrations. The completed system delivered effective negative side waterproofing and extended service life for the basement foundation walls without the need for exterior excavation.
