Raba Pedestrian Tunnel
Pärnu,
Estonia
The construction of the new Raba pedestrian tunnel was a vital infrastructure project designed to connect Ehitajate tee and Rääma streets in Estonia’s prominent spa town, Pärnu. The project faced significant hydrogeological challenges due to its immediate proximity to the Pärnu River, where the water table is consistently high.

This environment required a robust waterproofing solution capable of withstanding constant hydrostatic pressure to ensure the tunnel’s long-term serviceability and safety.
To address these conditions, Xypex Admix C-1000 NF was specified for all reinforced concrete structures throughout the tunnel. By integrating Xypex technology directly into the concrete mix, the project team created a permanent, non soluble crystalline structure within the concrete pores. This integral approach eliminated the need for external membranes, providing full-depth protection that resists high water levels and enhances the overall durability of the pedestrian link. The result is a watertight, low-maintenance connection that serves the residents and visitors of Pärnu.
