Saint-Philippe New Wastewater Treatment Plant

Saint-Philippe, Canada

The construction of a new wastewater treatment facility in Saint-Philippe presented a significant challenge in ensuring the long-term durability and watertightness of the wet well. The structure is constantly exposed to harsh wastewater conditions, including chemical attack and continuous moisture, making long-term durability and watertightness critical for operational performance. The public estimate for this project was $36.2 million.

To address these demands, the engineers at GBI specified the use of Xypex Admix C-500, which was integrated directly into the fresh concrete mix during the initial construction. Xypex Admix C-500 provides integral waterproofing by forming a crystalline structure within the concrete, protecting it from the inside out and eliminating the need for external membranes or coatings. It enhanced the chemical resistance of the concrete, protecting it from the corrosive environment within the wet well. Additionally, the Xypex Admix C-500 contributed to long-term cost savings by reducing maintenance and extending the service life of the structure.
