Heracles Lafarge Holcim Cement Plant

Euboea, Greece

The Heracles – LafargeHolcim cement plant, located in Euboea, Greece, required a critical restoration of its Cement Silo 720. Due to its immediate proximity to the sea, the silo’s outer shell had suffered significant deterioration caused by continuous exposure to high humidity and sea-water fogging.

The project, managed by ENKA SA, spanned from June to December 2023 and focused on restoring the structural integrity and providing long-term protection for the facility.

The scope of work included extensive concrete repairs using shotcrete across the silo's total surface area of 4,320 m2, distributed over six panels. Following the structural repairs, Xypex Concentrate was applied in a single layer to the entire surface. This crystalline treatment was selected to provide a permanent barrier against the aggressive coastal environment. By utilizing over 2,800 kg of Xypex Concentrate, the structure is now fully protected against rain water, humidity, and the corrosive effects of salt-water spray, ensuring the silo remains durable and maintenance-free for years to come.
