Réservoir d'eau potable Saint-Jean - Trois-Rivières

Trois-Rivières, Canada

The City of Trois-Rivières awarded Construction Deric a major contract to renovate part of its drinking water network facilities in the west sector, totalling just over $77 million. The 70-year-old reservoir showed signs of hairline cracks and joint seepage. A crucial part of renovating the Saint-Jean reservoir was addressing the concrete degradation and the cracks that had developed over decades of use.

To ensure the long-term watertightness and durability of the structure, Construction Deric used Xypex Patch'n Plug, a crystalline waterproofing admix, for its effectiveness in permanently sealing active leaks and cracks in concrete, even in damp conditions. It can stop flowing water in seconds and is effective for sealing cracks, tie holes, and other defects in concrete.

Additionally, Xypex Concentrate was applied as a cementitious slurry to the existing structures' surfaces to waterproof the concrete and protect it against high hydrostatic pressure and harsh environments. Xypex Modified chemically reinforces Xypex Concentrate, where two coats are required and produces a harder finish over the 4,000 m² of the concrete surface. This crystalline technology complied with potable water safety standards, a key requirement for the municipal reservoir. The successful application of Xypex Patch'n Plug, Concentrate and Modified contributed to stabilizing water pressure, preventing contamination risks, and extending the infrastructure's sustainable water services.
