Johnson Street Bridge

Construction on the new bridge began in May 2013. Xypex Admix C-500, with a dosage rate of 3%, will waterproof and protect 670 m³ of cast-in-place concrete for the pier walls and approach spans of the new bridge. The Xypex treated concrete will allow the bridge to withstand the aggressive marine environment and extend its service life.

The new Johnson Street Bridge will be the largest single-leaf bascule bridge in Canada and one of the largest in the world. The bridge will accommodate 30,000 bridge crossings per day for cars, bicycles and pedestrians and have a 100 year service life. The bridge will meet modern seismic construction codes and be able to withstand an 8.5 M earthquake.
