Hi, I've applied xypex concentrate and then xypex modified to the inside of a below ground wine cellar and an under stair storage area. There is a white fluffy substance coming up though the floor and out of the mortar joints, a couple of months after application. I ground all the blockwork back to raw with a cup stone prior to application and followed the mixing and application directions to the tee. I don't want to paint over the xypex while this white substance is still coming out? Any help please? Thanks

The white growth is most typically Xypex crystals that are
growing at the surface and is driven by water attempting to push through at
those points. Usually over time and as the Xypex continues to densify the
cement matrix both near the surface and deeper into the concrete and mortar the
water and water vapour will be reduced. As this happens, the crystal development
at the surface will also be reduced. This however may take a while.

My recommendation is to vacuum the crystals from the surface periodically and
as required until this effect has stopped. Leave it for several months after
the crystal growth has stopped just to be sure and then acid wash or otherwise
clean and prep the surface and apply your final coating. If this is unacceptable
to you please call me to discuss further - Jim @ 604-273-5265.
